Theme: Shipwrecks, Maritime Archaeologists at Work
Join our hosts Jasmine and Greta as they introduce the wreck of the SS Camberwell which sunk in 1917. The Camberwell was a cargo ship that was transporting an incredible array of items on its last voyage and was struck on its way to Calcutta. Many of the crew aboard were known as ‘lascar’ sailors and were lost during the tragedy. Maritime Archaeology Trust volunteer Shirley speaks about the unfair treatment of lascar sailors and Shipwreck Centre owner Martin delves into the remarkable cargo of the vessel.
