Lepe

Lepe

The MAT has been investigating some worked stone blocks and potential associated timbers discovered on the foreshore at Lepe. This site was brought to our attention by our former Vice President, Mr Maldwin Drummond.

The site was inspected at low water and it would seem that this may be the site of a shipwreck but no timber is showing above the foreshore.

The stone blocks, however are clearly visible and two ship planks were found in the vicinity but at this time it is unclear whether they are associated with the timbers.

The shingle on the beach hampered fieldwork and further research and survey is required as we are currently unsure of the date of the potential vessel and its identity.
