The International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICUCH) is one of ICOMOS’ (International Council on Monuments and Sites) International Scientific Committees founded in 1991 to promote international cooperation in the protection and management of underwater cultural heritage and to advise ICOMOS on issues related to underwater cultural heritage. The committee is composed of international experts in underwater cultural heritage, with more than 50 members representing 40 countries. ICUCH’s first created the Charter on the Protection and Management of Underwater Cultural Heritage (1996) and is the basis of the Rules in the Annex of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Cultural Heritage (Paris 2001).
