The Maritime Archaeology Trust is a registered charity with 30 years’ experience in promoting marine cultural heritage. Based in the South of England we work regionally, nationally and internationally through our programmes that include the investigation of shipwrecks, submerged prehistoric landscapes and the myriad heritage in the intertidal and foreshore zones. Our education, outreach and volunteering programmes make maritime heritage available to all through events, activities, our Discovery Bus and through the Shipwreck Centre and Maritime Museum.

Formed in 1967, the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA) is the largest scholarly group concerned with the archaeology of the modern world (A.D. 1400-present). The main focus of the society is the era since the beginning of European exploration. SHA promotes scholarly research and the dissemination of knowledge concerning historical archaeology. The society is specifically concerned with the identification, excavation, interpretation, and conservation of sites and materials on land and underwater. Geographically the society emphasizes the New World, but also includes European exploration and settlement in Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Ethical principles of the society are set forth in Article VII of SHA’s Bylaws and specified in a statement adopted on June 21 2003.

MAST provides full-cycle maritime archaeological capability, from discovery, excavation and conservation to the museum door. It exists to fill a long overdue void in our understanding of our nation's rich maritime heritage, to ensure that there is a sustainable future for such sites, through archaeology, research, study and dissemination. MAST also runs the Maritime Observatory in partnership with OceanMind: this partnership represents a novel, holistic approach to the deterrence of illegal activity at sea to combine both monitoring and detection of illegal fishing activities and the looting of known shipwreck sites. The Observatory uses a combination of satellites, artificial and human intelligence to study and detect such illegal activity developing patterns to promote the evolution of a predictive intelligence tool.

Created in March 2004, on the initiative of young archaeology researchers and professional divers keen to pool their skills, Arkaeos works towards the development of underwater archaeology. The organization manages field operations as well as educational and valorization activities about cultural maritime heritage. Its activities are carried out in partnership with public bodies ensuring either their scientific credibility and "good practices" guidelines, or the information dissemination to the scientific community and the general public (DRASSM/MCC, CNRS, University, Museums, National Park Services…). Meanwhile, Arkaeos carries out specific actions to promote maritime heritage. The Gyptis, a sailing replica of a Greek boat from the 6th century BC, built from the model of remains discovered in Marseille and launched in 2013, has been the subject of numerous conferences and scientific publications but also presentations.

The Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) is a non-profit, international research organization founded in 1972 by Dr. George F. Bass (1932-2021), who pioneered the science of archaeological excavation under water. INA archaeologists are responsible for the excavation of sites that include the Late Bronze Age shipwreck at Uluburun, Turkey, the Phoenician shipwreck at Bajo de la Campana, Spain, the Byzantine shipwreck at Yassıada, Turkey, the side-wheel steamboat Heroine in Oklahoma’s Red River, and the Civil War blockade runner Denbigh in Texas, to name a few. The broad scope of what we do involves remote sensing, underwater excavation, digital recording, decompression diving, artifact conservation, scientific analysis, and lots and lots of research. INA is affiliated with the graduate Nautical Archaeology Program (NAP) at Texas A&M University; many INA research associates are NAP graduates. INA also operates a research center and artifact conservation facility in Bodrum, Turkey.

The International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICUCH) is one of ICOMOS’ (International Council on Monuments and Sites) International Scientific Committees founded in 1991 to promote international cooperation in the protection and management of underwater cultural heritage and to advise ICOMOS on issues related to underwater cultural heritage. The committee is composed of international experts in underwater cultural heritage, with more than 50 members representing 40 countries. ICUCH’s first created the Charter on the Protection and Management of Underwater Cultural Heritage (1996) and is the basis of the Rules in the Annex of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Cultural Heritage (Paris 2001).

The Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) was created in 1992 to include members of the diving and non-diving public in a professionally organized and directed effort to study Rhode Island's maritime history and marine archaeology. RIMAP is a federally approved 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with an interest in the maritime history and marine archaeology of Narragansett Bay, the Sounds, the state's rivers, and other inland waters, and how all of these connect Rhode Island to the wider world. We are very proud of our work, and each year our fundraising efforts are reinvested into ongoing research, marine archaeology and delivering and developing education and outreach programs to help inform the public about this rich area of cultural heritage.

The Maritime Archaeology and Heritage Institute (MAHI) is a non-profit, autonomous research organisation dedicated to the investigation and preservation of maritime cultural heritage in the Western Indian Ocean. Based in Pakistan, MAHI is led by international experts in the fields of maritime archaeology and cultural heritage management, who bring with them decades of operational experience on cultural heritage projects in the Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific regions. As Maritime Archaeology is a new discipline in Pakistan, MAHI aims to draw on a broad network of multidisciplinary regional and international experts to deliver on its research objectives. These include archaeological investigation, education and training, GIS and remote sensing, intangible cultural heritage and tourism. MAHI supports the aims of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage and the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
